NOUN Governing Council Appoints Prof. Uduma as New Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has approved the appointment of Professor Uduma O. Uduma as the institution’s next Vice-Chancellor, effective February 11, 2026.

The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has approved the appointment of Professor Uduma O. Uduma as the institution’s next Vice-Chancellor, effective February 11, 2026.

The appointment follows the expiration of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor. It was ratified after due consideration of the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

Professor Uduma, a Professor of Philosophy and Logic and Barrister-at-Law, obtained his first degree from the University of Calabar, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty, before earning a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Lagos. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.

A seasoned academic and administrator, he has served as Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). While serving as Study Centre Director at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, he increased student enrolment from 496 to over 2,000.

Speaking on the appointment, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mallam Isa Yuguda, CON, expressed confidence in Professor Uduma’s capacity to drive NOUN’s vision of accessible and quality higher education.
