Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political significance in Kano State has been recognised by All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Hon. Adamu Aliyu, who emphasised that the ruling party is taking his influence seriously.
Aliyu made this known during an interview on Channels Television, on Wednesday 1 April, 2026, where he discussed the changing political landscape in Kano, a crucial battlefield in the northern part of Nigeria.
Aliyu refuted allegations that the APC is undervaluing the former governor of Kano State when discussing the power of Kwankwaso and his political movement.
“Nobody is ignoring Kwankwaso in Kano and we are not ignoring him. We are wary of Kwankwaso, we know what he can do and we are also not sitting down,” he said.
Kwankwaso’s grassroots appeal and long-standing influence in Kano politics, especially through his devoted support base, are acknowledged by the APC chairman. He insisted, nevertheless, that the ruling party is actively planning to hold onto power in the state.
Because of its vast voter base and track record of influencing election results, Kano continues to be one of Nigeria’s most politically crucial states. Kwankwaso, who ran for president in 2023, is still well-liked in the area, making him a crucial player in any political calculations ahead of upcoming elections.
As political players start early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, Aliyu’s comments imply that the APC is not taking any chances. He implied that the party is already working behind the scenes to strengthen its position and fight the might of the opposition.
