Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has confirmed that all 24 schoolgirls rescued from bandits are in good health.
Addressing journalists at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi shortly after announcing their release, the governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies involved in the rescue operation.
“From the information we have right now, the children are on their way back, and they are all fine,” he said.
Governor Idris also stressed that no ransom was paid to secure the students’ freedom.
“We checked to confirm if any ransom was paid, and from everything we gathered, no money was given. As a government, we didn’t pay a single naira, and the security officers who went to receive them also said they didn’t take any money,” he stated.
He added that the students would be handed over to their parents on Wednesday.
The schoolgirls were abducted last week from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
