The Federal Government (FG) has cancelled the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
The announcement was contained in a statement released on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Parade Cancellation Not a Setback
According to the statement, no reason was given for the decision to cancel the parade. However, the government maintained that the cancellation “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary.”
It assured Nigerians that the federal administration remains committed to celebrating the nation’s 65th Independence “with dignity and enthusiasm,” noting that all other scheduled programmes will go ahead as planned.
“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October.
The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
Call for Support and Cooperation
The government also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the decision and urged Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to support ongoing national reforms.
“The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests, and urges Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in making Nigeria a greater nation,” it added.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark the 65th Independence anniversary.
