Nnamdi Kanu’s brother hails Nigerians for unity during #FreeNnamdiKanu protest

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians who participated in the recent #FreeNnamdiKanu protest held in Abuja.

He described the protest as a major success that cut across ethnic, regional, and political boundaries, showing the collective resolve of Nigerians to demand justice and fairness for his brother.

Protest unites Nigerians

In a statement on his Facebook page, Prince Emmanuel said the protest, held on October 20, 2025, proved that the call for justice for Nnamdi Kanu was not limited to any tribe or region.

He noted that the peaceful demonstration attracted Nigerians from different backgrounds who came together to demand Kanu’s release from detention.

According to him, the unity displayed during the protest reflected the growing awareness among citizens about the need to defend human rights and oppose injustice wherever it occurs.

Police intervention and arrests

The protest, led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, faced heavy police resistance as officers blocked protesters from reaching strategic points in the Federal Capital Territory, including the Presidential Villa.

Prince Kanu, Sowore, Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, and several others were arrested and later charged before a magistrate court in Kuje for alleged incitement and breach of peace.

They were granted bail on October 24 but released on October 27 after meeting their bail conditions, following days of detention at Kuje Prison.

Kanu praises solidarity, insists on justice

Following his release, Prince Emmanuel took to social media to thank Nigerians for standing firm despite police intimidation.

He said the protest’s success demonstrated unity of purpose, describing it as a “movement of conscience” that would be remembered for challenging injustice through peace.

Prince Kanu maintained that those behind his brother’s continued detention would one day be held accountable, insisting that “heaven remains on the side of justice.”
