The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has upgraded its passport tracking system in a move aimed at improving transparency and reducing delays in passport collection.
The Service announced the update on Thursday via its official X handle, noting that the change followed reports that hundreds of completed passports remained uncollected, triggering complaints from applicants.
According to the NIS, the new feature—labelled “Produced (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection)”—is designed to clearly inform applicants when their passports are ready for pickup.
The upgrade provides more detailed status updates, distinguishing between passports that have been produced and are awaiting physical collection and those already produced but pending delivery through courier services.
The Service said the enhanced system would allow applicants to better track processing timelines and reduce uncertainty surrounding passport issuance.
The NIS added that the update forms part of its broader efforts to improve service delivery and strengthen public confidence through a more efficient and transparent passport administration process aligned with global best practices.
