NIMC Begins Ward-Level NIN Registration in Jigawa State, Focuses on Women and Children

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has commenced ward-level registration and enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) in Jigawa State.

State Coordinator Mr. Aminu Jakada told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday that the nationwide exercise, which began on February 16, is part of efforts to expand access to registration services following a presidential directive.

President Bola Tinubu had instructed NIMC to increase enrolment nationwide, with a particular focus on women and children, many of whom have yet to register for NIN in Jigawa.

“NIMC has deployed systems to each ward of the federation, including Jigawa. We’ve deployed enrolment devices across the state to register more and more people,” Jakada said.

He emphasized the benefits of having a NIN, noting that it is now required for school enrolment, international passport applications, phone number registration, and bank account openings.

The coordinator confirmed that enrolment is free of charge and urged Nigerians to report any attempt at extortion to security agencies or NIMC offices, warning that erring personnel would face sanctions. He also called on local authorities, community, and religious leaders to sensitise residents on the importance of NIN and encourage participation in the exercise.
