Nigerian police debunk alleged assassination attempt on Naval officer who clashed with Wike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed circulating reports alleging an assassination attempt on Naval officer Lt. A.M. Yarima, following his viral confrontation with the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, described the claims as “entirely false,” stressing that no such incident was reported or recorded anywhere within the FCT.

“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima. The command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”

The public is advised to disregard this false information and refrain from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.

The denial follows widespread speculation that unidentified gunmen trailed the officer in unmarked vehicles with an alleged intention to attack him.

The rumours, which generated online attention, heightened public tension and prompted calls for official clarification. Security officials, however, maintain that ongoing checks have so far revealed no evidence of a life-threatening plot.

The controversy comes in the aftermath of Lt. Yarima’s highly publicised encounter with Minister Wike at a disputed land site in Gaduwa, Abuja, an incident that had already sparked nationwide debate.

As the situation unfolds, authorities are urging citizens to rely on verified information and avoid amplifying unconfirmed or sensational claims.
