It was another eventful weekend for Nigerian footballers abroad, with Victor Osimhen grabbing the headlines in Turkey, while Gift Orban, Prosper Peter, and others found the back of the net for their respective clubs across Europe.
TURKEY – Osimhen Powers Galatasaray to Comeback Win
Victor Osimhen delivered another decisive performance in Istanbul as Galatasaray came from behind to beat Göztepe 3–1, extending their unbeaten run in the Turkish Super Lig to seven matches.
Göztepe took an early lead through Efkan Bekiroglu in the sixth minute after a rebound inside the box. Moments later, Galatasaray thought they had won a penalty when Osimhen was brought down, but VAR ruled against it.
The Nigerian striker soon responded in his trademark style—dribbling past several defenders before calmly sitting the goalkeeper down with a clever dummy and slotting home the equaliser. A VAR review followed, but this time the goal stood.
Göztepe’s evening worsened as Malcom Bokele received a red card just before halftime for a reckless challenge, swinging momentum toward Galatasaray. Osimhen nearly added another early in the second half, but his shot was superbly saved.
Gabriel Sara put Galatasaray ahead with a fine finish, before Mauro Icardi sealed the win late on. Osimhen, who was substituted in the 86th minute, has now scored three Super Lig goals and three in the Champions League this season—ten goal contributions overall for club and country.
The champions remain six points clear at the top and next face Trabzonspor, where Osimhen is expected to battle compatriot Paul Onuachu, before a crucial Champions League tie against Ajax.
ITALY – Orban on Target as Verona Draw Again
Gift Orban netted his second Serie A goal of the season, though Hellas Verona were held to a 2–2 draw by Cagliari at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.
Verona took the lead through Roberto Gagliardini, before Orban saw his header brilliantly denied by goalkeeper Elia Caprile. The forward remained a constant threat with his pace and movement, eventually doubling the advantage with a composed first-time strike.
However, late goals from Riyad Idrissi and Mattia Felici denied Verona their first league win of the campaign. Despite being withdrawn in the 78th minute, Orban’s form continues to shine as a bright spot in an otherwise difficult season for Marco Baroni’s side, who remain winless after eight matches.
FRANCE – Prosper Peter Scores, Then Suffers Injury
At the Stade Raymond-Kopa, 18-year-old Nigeria-eligible forward Prosper Peter opened the scoring for Angers in their 2–0 victory over FC Lorient before limping off injured.
Peter struck in the 15th minute with a composed left-footed finish from Amine Sbaï’s assist but was forced off twelve minutes later after sustaining a knock. Substitute Sidiki Chérif doubled the lead in the 59th minute to seal the win.
Despite his early exit, Peter’s goal underlined his growing potential. Meanwhile, Lorient’s Tosin Aiyegun missed a penalty, and goalkeeper Hervé Koffi ensured Angers’ second league win of the season.
ENGLAND – Udoh Keeps Salford’s Promotion Push Alive
Daniel Udoh continued his fine form in League Two, scoring in Salford City’s 2–1 away win over Gillingham at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
Udoh opened the scoring in the seventh minute, latching onto Kallum Cesay’s through ball before finishing neatly past Glenn Morris. Cesay added a second before halftime, while Gillingham’s Josh Andrews pulled one back late on.
Udoh’s relentless pressing and intelligent movement proved crucial despite losing 23 duels. The Nigerian forward now boasts eight goal contributions (four goals and four assists) in eight appearances, as Salford climb to third—just one point off the top.
KUWAIT – Iwuala Inspires Al Arabi’s Comeback
Anayo Iwuala was instrumental in Al Arabi SC’s 2–2 comeback draw against Al-Safa in the AFC Challenge League.
Trailing 2–0 at halftime, Iwuala converted a 53rd-minute penalty to spark the revival before an own goal from Kassem Hayek levelled the score. The match ended dramatically with red cards for Abbas Assi (Al-Safa) and Nabil Marmouk (Al Arabi).
Iwuala, now on four goals in four games this season, continues to build on last year’s tally of eight, positioning himself among the league’s standout performers.
POLAND – Mukairu the Super-Sub Again
Paul Mukairu once again proved decisive for Pogoń Szczecin, coming off the bench to score an 87th-minute winner in their 2–1 triumph over Cracovia in the Polish Ekstraklasa.
Introduced in the 76th minute, the Nigerian curled in a stunning strike after Kamil Grosicki had equalised earlier. All three of Mukairu’s goals this season have been late winners, confirming his reputation as a reliable impact player.
The victory lifted Pogoń Szczecin to 11th on 14 points ahead of their clash with Wisła Płock on November 3.
SWEDEN – Nnamani Nets Twice in Nordic Thriller
Samuel Nnamani came off the bench to score twice as Nordic United drew 3–3 with Sollentuna FK in an action-packed encounter in the Ettan Norra.
Trailing 3–2, Nnamani equalised in the 57th minute before adding a second three minutes later, briefly giving Nordic the lead. Sollentuna, however, rescued a point deep into stoppage time.
Despite the draw, Nordic remain top of the table with 59 points, four clear of their closest rivals. Nnamani has now scored 11 goals in 26 matches, including three in his last four appearances.
UKRAINE – Obah Extends Scoring Streak for Cherkasy
Prosper Obah continued his fine form as LNZ Cherkasy beat Metalist 1925 in the Ukrainian Premier League.
The Nigerian forward struck in the 62nd minute—his third goal in as many matches—as Cherkasy stretched their unbeaten run to five games and secured a third consecutive win.
Obah now has five goals and one assist in ten appearances this season, helping his side stay top of the league with 20 points in their ongoing title charge.
