Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation to address contemporary security challenges.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa Oluyede, made this known while receiving the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday.
Oluyede appreciated the UK for its continued support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly in professional military education and specialised training.
He said the partnership remained critical to enhancing national and regional security.
“The collaboration in training, intelligence and capacity development is vital to improving our operational effectiveness,” he said.
The CDS reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to continuous professional development.
He expressed optimism that expanding bilateral cooperation would further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
In his remarks, Montgomery congratulated Oluyede on his service and praised the steady progress in defence relations.
He described the partnership as forward-looking and mutually beneficial.
According to him, both countries share responsibility for promoting regional stability and addressing emerging threats.
