Nigeria to Observe Public Holiday on Friday for Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and globally, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

He explained that these values remain critical to building a united and progressive nation.

The minister also called on Nigerians of all faiths to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country while supporting government policies aimed at fostering national harmony and sustainable development.

“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers an opportunity to strengthen brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He further advised citizens to remain law-abiding, security conscious, and committed to collective well-being, wishing all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.

The public holiday declaration applies nationwide, allowing citizens to join in the commemoration of one of Islam’s most significant observances.
