Nigeria and Switzerland have moved to strengthen their defence and diplomatic relations, with emphasis on non-kinetic approaches to security and peacebuilding.
This development followed a courtesy visit by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Patrick Felix Egloff, to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit marked another step in the growing partnership between both countries in addressing security challenges through dialogue, development, and humanitarian engagement.
Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Egloff reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in the area of peace and stability.
He explained that Switzerland is keen on promoting non-military solutions to insecurity, including community engagement, humanitarian assistance, and institutional reforms.
According to him, addressing the root causes of conflict remains a priority for the Swiss government in its partnership with Nigeria.
The ambassador also stressed the need for sustained collaboration between both nations, noting that long-term cooperation would deliver more impactful results.
In his response, General Oluyede welcomed the Swiss envoy and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s continued support for Nigeria’s security architecture.
He acknowledged Switzerland’s role in supporting non-kinetic operations, describing such efforts as vital in complementing military actions.
The Defence Chief said peacebuilding, dialogue, and strategic cooperation were critical in tackling emerging security threats.
General Oluyede further expressed optimism that the relationship between both countries would continue to grow stronger.
He assured the ambassador of the Armed Forces’ readiness to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting, observers say, reflects Nigeria’s growing engagement with international partners in pursuit of sustainable peace.
The visit ended with both parties pledging continued dialogue and partnership for regional and national stability.
