The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to commemorate 70 years of women in policing, celebrating seven decades of service, courage, and leadership since the first group of female officers was enlisted in 1955.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday, the event will take place from December 3 to 4, 2025, and will bring together serving and retired female officers, alongside the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Hundeyin said the anniversary highlights the vital role women have played in strengthening law enforcement and fostering public trust across Nigeria.
He quoted the IGP as commending the dedication and professionalism of female officers, describing their contributions as “integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria.”
“Over the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have excelled in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and leadership,” the statement said. “They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation, redefining policing with compassion and purpose.”
Planned activities for the two-day celebration include a national lecture, historical exhibition, panel discussions, and an outreach programme.
The Force said the anniversary underscores its commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in policing.
“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation,” the statement added.
