Nigeria Moves to End Govt Duplication as NITDA Takes Over

‎By Chimezie Godfrey

‎Nigeria has taken a major step toward digital governance and efficient public service delivery with the handover of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) Portal to the National Information Technology Development Agency.

‎The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, described the development as a game changer in the country’s digital transformation drive.

‎Represented by Dr Dimie Warowei at the ceremony in Abuja, Abdullahi said the portal would eliminate duplication across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and improve coordination in government operations.

‎“This platform is not just a digital tool; it is the foundation for a more efficient, integrated and citizen-focused government,” he said.

‎The project, launched in 2022 under Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, was executed in partnership with the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

‎Over the past two and a half years, Nigerian and Korean experts worked jointly to redesign the country’s enterprise architecture framework to align with global best practices.

‎Officials said the initiative has produced key reference models covering technology, business processes and service delivery, aimed at standardising digital systems across government institutions.

‎Pilot programmes were carried out in major agencies, including the National Identity Management Commission, Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service.

‎The agencies were equipped with digital transformation roadmaps and trained personnel to drive implementation.

‎NITDA also confirmed that the infrastructure powering the portal was developed by Qorebox Technologies and hosted by Galaxy Backbone.

‎A two-year maintenance framework has been put in place to ensure system stability and continuity.

‎Experts say the new system will significantly improve interoperability among MDAs and enhance service delivery to citizens.

‎Speaking at the event, KOICA Country Director, Eunsub Kim, commended Nigeria’s commitment to digital reform and pledged continued support.

‎Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, represented by Johnson Bareyei, said the portal marks a shift from fragmented digital projects to a unified national system.

‎He noted that the initiative aligns with the reform agenda of Minister Bosun Tijani.

‎Newsdiaryonline reports that he move could boost transparency, reduce waste and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a digital economy.
