Nigeria @ 65: ‘The worst is over for Nigeria’ – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country has passed through its toughest phase and is now on the path to recovery.

In his Independence Day broadcast on Tuesday, marking 65 years since Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule, Tinubu said his administration’s reforms were beginning to restore stability.

The worst is over, and hope is rising for our beloved nation,” Tinubu declared. “We have taken painful but necessary steps to secure a brighter future, and we are beginning to see the benefits.”

The President pointed to the country’s 4.23% GDP growth in the second quarter of 2025 and the fall of inflation to 20.12% as evidence that the economy was turning a corner after months of turbulence.

Security And youth empowerment on the agenda

On security, Tinubu highlighted successes recorded by the armed forces against insurgents and criminal gangs.

He praised the military’s “resilience, courage and sacrifice,” stressing that operations in the North-East and North-West had reduced terrorist and bandit activities.

Beyond security, the President said his government remained focused on empowering young Nigerians through reforms that expand access to education, credit and enterprise opportunities.

“Our youth are the future of this nation,” he said. “We are investing in your education, your creativity and your entrepreneurial spirit to ensure that you thrive in a modern economy.”

Call For unity And national renewal

In the closing part of his speech, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united and continue supporting efforts at national renewal. He emphasised that the gains of today’s sacrifices would become the foundation for a stronger Nigeria.

The dawn of a new Nigeria is upon us,” the President said. “We must remain productive and committed to building a country that works for all.”

He also reminded citizens that Independence Day is not just a celebration of freedom but a call to collective responsibility.

According to him, Nigeria’s greatness depends on the resolve of its people to work together for common progress.
