Bond trading on the Nigerian Exchange surged last week as turnover climbed to N2.64 billion, driven overwhelmingly by transactions in NBET2033S1B.
Investors traded 2.643 million bond units valued at N2.641 billion in 56 deals during the week ended October 16, 2026.
This compared with 144,034 units worth N146.416 million in 48 deals in the preceding week.
The latest figures represent an increase of approximately 1,735 percent in trading volume with the number of units exchanged rising by almost 2.5 million week-on-week.
Transaction value increased even more sharply, rising by about N2.495 billion, or approximately 1,704 percent from the previous week’s N146.42 million.
However, the surge in activity was heavily concentrated in a single security.
NBET2033S1B accounted for 2.473 million units worth N2.473 billion, representing approximately 93.6 percent of total bond volume and 93.6 percent of total transaction value recorded on the NGX during the week.
The security’s dominance means the sharp week-on-week increase in bond turnover reflected concentrated activity rather than a broad-based rise across the fixed-income securities traded on the exchange.
TAJSUKS2 ranked a distant second, recording 70,150 units worth N70.15 million across 21 deals.
FGSUK2027S3 followed with 21,700 units valued at N20.32 million, while FGS202656 and FGS202770 each recorded 20,000 units worth N20.24 million and N20.06 million, respectively.
Other securities traded during the week included FGSUK2033S6, TAJSUKS1, FGSUK2032S5, FGS202882, FGSUK2032S7, FGSUK2031S4 and FGS202776.
Despite the surge in bond turnover, the NGX Sovereign Bond Index closed unchanged at 661.50 points for the week.
The index remained marginally lower by 0.03 percent month-to-date and was down 3.03 percent since the beginning of the year.
The latest trading figures therefore point to a dramatic increase in NGX-listed bond turnover last week, although nearly N94 out of every N100 traded in the segment was concentrated in NBET2033S1B.
