A renewed push for partnerships in Nigeria’s humanitarian sector began yesterday as Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya formally assumed duty as the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Olusanya, who took over at a brief ceremony in Abuja, stressed the need for stronger collaboration with agencies, donors and development partners to uplift vulnerable groups including the elderly, persons with disabilities, distressed families, migrants and IDPs.
According to him, the Ministry cannot work in isolation. “When we perform, the country feels it; when we don’t, Nigerians suffer the impact,” he said, promising improved staff welfare and capacity-building.
Outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, praised the staff for their professionalism and urged them to extend full support to his successor as he moves to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Onyia-Desy Chinyere Hilda, Director of HR, thanked Kofarmata for his open-door leadership and assured Olusanya of the Ministry’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate.
The event also featured the official signing of handover notes, with directors and staff from the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Reduction and Youth Development in attendance.
