In line with the recent postings and appointments of senior officers in the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Nicholas Nemetne Rume has assumed command as the 23rd Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ilorin.
The assumption of command took place on 22 October 2025 during a colourful handing and taking over ceremony held at the Headquarters, 22 Armoured Brigade, between Brigadier General Rume and his predecessor, Brigadier General Ezra Bawa Barkins.
In his remarks, the outgoing Commander, Brigadier General Barkins, expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for the opportunity to serve as Commander of the Brigade. He appreciated officers and soldiers for their loyalty, professionalism, and support throughout his tenure, urging them to extend the same and even greater cooperation to his successor to ensure continued operational success in the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
The ceremony featured the signing of the handing and taking over notes, a farewell address to troops by the outgoing Commander, and the symbolic presentation of the command flag to the incoming Commander. A highlight of the event was the hoisting of the new Brigade flag at the Quarter Guard, signifying the beginning of a new era in the Brigade’s leadership.
