The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to reduce road traffic accidents in Plateau.
Mrs Bintu Aliyu, Head of Operations, NEMA Jos, said that the collaboration was to strengthen accident prevention strategies, improve emergency response, and promote safer driving practices among commercial drivers.
Aliyu stated this at the flag-off of the 2025 Operation Eagle Eye on Wednesday in Jos.
The head of operations emphasised the need for sustained public enlightenment, strict adherence to traffic regulations, and improved coordination during emergencies.
She stressed that effective disaster risk reduction required the collective efforts of government agencies, transport unions, and road users in curbing carnage on the highways and loss of lives during and after the season.
Similarly, Mr Felix Bedung, Head of Operations, FRSC Bukuru Unit Command, commended the agency for supporting the corps in ensuring sanity on the road.
Bedung, who was represented by Abraham Dagaen, Protocol Officer, Bukuru Unit Command, highlighted the importance of driver education, vehicle roadworthiness, and enforcement of speed limits.
He said the collaboration with NURTW would help ensure that safety messages reach drivers at motor parks and during their daily operations.
Mr Gideon Samuel, Organising Secretary of NURTW Mini Bus Branch Maraban Jama’a, pledged full cooperation with NEMA and FRSC.
Samuel assured that its union members would be sensitised on road safety measures, emergency preparedness, and responsible driving.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the partners agreed to sustain synergy and rapid-response mechanisms to minimise casualties during road crashes and enhance overall road safety. (NAN) (http://www.nannews.ng)
