The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed relief materials to victims of the 2025 flooding and windstorm in Eket Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NEMA distributed items such as rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomatoes, seasoners, salt among others.
Speaking at the event in Ibeno on Wednesday, Mrs Mmandu Aisueni, the Head, NEMA Operations in Akwa Ibom, said that the gesture was the Federal Government’s way of supporting the victims.
Represented by Mr Akpakpan Victor, the Head, Relief and Rehabilitation, Aisueni urged the beneficiaries to accept the items, and use them to improve their welfare.
“It is with mixed emotions that we gather here today, we are saddened by the devastating impacts of the recent flooding and windstorm.
“The effects of the disasters have been deeply felt in these communities. Property and sources of livelihoods have been destroyed.
“Today, we are distributing these items not just as a gesture of support, but as a demonstration of our shared humanity and commitment,”she said.
The NEMA official said that proactive measures were critical to avoiding similar occurrences in the future.
Also speaking, Mr Okpolupm Etteh, the Member representing Eket Federal Constituency, said that the essence of the relief material was to support the affected families.
Etteh, who was represented by Mr Ekoakwaha Etteh, thanked the Federal Government for the intervention, describing it as well-intended.
Mrs Owoidighe Mfonobong, a beneficiary, expressed the gratitude of the affected families to the Federal Government.
“We are happy that we were remembered by the government, these items mean a lot to us. We are very grateful, ”she said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
