The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
The State Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this on Monday in Kano, noting that the achievement was facilitated through the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.
Lawan explained that the initiative aligns with the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which emphasizes inmate rehabilitation through education and vocational training. “This success reflects the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging all custodial centres to enroll inmates in both academic and vocational programmes,” he said.
The programme aims to equip inmates with skills and knowledge to reintegrate into society as responsible, productive citizens, consistent with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The beneficiaries expressed joy over their achievements, viewing the success as a turning point in their lives. The Controller of Corrections in Kano, Mr. Ado Inuwa, commended the inmates’ performance and wished them well in their reformation journey.
Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his dedication to improving the welfare of custodial inmates through education and empowerment initiatives.
