NDLEA Kaduna, Red Cross explore areas of stronger collaboration

The Kaduna State Branch Youth Wing of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, led by its Chairman, Zulqarnain Aliyu Gwongwad, on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State Command.

The delegation was received by the State Commander, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, alongside members of the Command’s Management Team.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two organisations and exploring areas of collaboration, particularly in humanitarian support, personnel training, emergency preparedness and drug abuse prevention.

During the visit, the Red Cross delegation gave a brief history of the organisation and highlighted its humanitarian and community-based activities.

The team expressed its readiness to collaborate with the NDLEA by providing training for personnel in first aid, emergency preparedness and response, especially officers whose duties expose them to various hazards and operational risks.

The delegation also identified other possible areas of collaboration, including drug abuse prevention and awareness, youth engagement, community sensitisation, referral services and other humanitarian interventions.

Responding, the State Commander welcomed the delegation and expressed delight over the visit. He noted that the drug problem remains a major challenge with significant social, economic and security implications, requiring a collective effort to address.

He explained that the Agency’s major strategies in combating drug abuse include supply reduction, demand reduction, counselling and rehabilitation, stressing the importance of partnerships with relevant organisations in achieving sustainable results.

The State Commander also highlighted the relevance of drug testing kits in the Agency’s operations and assured the delegation that the doors of the NDLEA Kaduna State Command remain open for meaningful collaboration.

The visit featured a fruitful exchange of ideas and knowledge, with both organisations expressing their commitment to sustaining the relationship and working together to enhance the safety and wellbeing of personnel and communities across Kaduna State.

The NDLEA Kaduna State Command commends the Nigerian Red Cross Society Kaduna State Branch Youth Wing for the visit and looks forward to deepening the relationship and strengthening collaboration in the areas of personnel training and welfare, drug abuse prevention, emergency preparedness and community engagement across Kaduna State.
