NDLEA Intercepts ₦3bn Heroin at Abuja Airport, Seizes Explosives, Drugs Across States‎



‎The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Brazilian national, Ms. Ingrid Rosa Benevides, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with 30.09 kilograms of heroin valued at over ₦3 billion.

‎The Director, Media and Advocacy of the Agency, Femi Babafemi, said, “The suspect was arrested on January 23, 2026, on arrival from Doha aboard Qatar Airways flight QR1431.”

‎He stated, “Twenty-one factory-sealed coffee packs containing 30.09kg of heroin were recovered from her checked-in luggage.”

‎According to Babafemi, “This represents the largest single heroin seizure recorded at the Abuja airport.”

‎He disclosed, “The suspect claimed during interrogation that she came to Nigeria on holiday.”

‎He added, “At MMIA, Lagos, two passengers heading to Turkey were intercepted with 3,990 pills of tapentadol and tramaking.”

‎Babafemi said, “Our Marine Command intercepted 1,848kg of cannabis at Jakande Beach, Lekki.”

‎He noted, “Two suspects were arrested over the transportation of explosives concealed in bags heading to Kano and Kaduna.”

‎According to him, “In Borno State, 179,590 pills of tramadol and diazepam were seized, leading to the arrest of Rabiu Imam.”

‎He stated, “In Edo State, a traditional ruler and another suspect were arrested with 681kg of skunk and 181kg of cannabis seeds.”

‎Babafemi added, “Several other arrests and seizures were recorded in Ekiti, Benue, Delta, Oyo, FCT, Lagos, Ondo and other states.”

‎He disclosed, “NDLEA officers sustained War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation activities nationwide.”

‎He said, “These were carried out in schools, worship centres and communities.”

‎According to him, “Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the commands involved for their professionalism.”

‎The spokesman concluded, “Officers were urged to maintain high standards in drug control operations.”
