‘Blame TCN, Not Us,’ Read the notice signed by NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, on what Nigerians should know about the indefinite strike
Nigerians may face widespread power outages in the coming days as the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has commenced an indefinite strike, Naijaonpoint reports.
The union on a notice signed by NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, and sighted by Naijaonpoint on Thursday, accused the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) of neglecting issues it leadership raised with the management.
The strike, which began on Wednesday, the union continued, was due to the TCN’s failure to address their long-standing demands.
These demands include payment of the national minimum wage, an end to workers’ casualisation, provision of tools and safety equipment, and the settlement of unpaid salaries dating back to April 2025.
The notice read; “It is unfortunate that TCN management has treated these matters with little seriousness and has no clear plan to solve them. We cannot sit and watch while our rights are violated and the electricity industry collapses. For this reason, our members are directed to stop work until management meets its responsibilities,” the statement said.
The union also highlighted other grievances such as lack of operational vehicles, non-payment of retirement benefits, and unresolved matters from TCN’s unbundling.
This is not the first time NUEE has embarked on industrial action. In June 2024, a similar strike disrupted electricity supply across the country.
