A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Paul Yovwe Oyiborume, has said the office of the National Secretary of the party is not the personal property of any individual.
Oyiborume, who described himself as the incoming National Secretary of the party, stated this while reacting to comments reportedly made by Ajibola Basiru regarding the position.
In a statement he personally signed, Oyiborume said the party is governed by its constitution and established structures rather than personal preferences.
“For the record, the office of the National Secretary is not the personal property of any individual. Our party is governed by its constitution and established structures, not by personal preferences or assumptions,” he said.
He also clarified that the highest decision-making body of the party remains the National Convention, noting that it supersedes the National Executive Committee in line with the party’s constitution.
According to him, the position of National Secretary is zoned to the South-South geopolitical zone and further micro-zoned to Delta State, while the office of National Publicity Secretary is zoned to the South-West.
“These zoning arrangements were collectively agreed upon in the interest of fairness, equity, and unity within the party,” he stated.
Oyiborume advised anyone dissatisfied with the arrangement to seek redress through the party’s democratic process at the National Convention rather than making public insinuations.
He stressed that the All Progressives Congress must continue to uphold internal democracy, respect zoning principles and adhere strictly to its constitutional provisions.
