The Police Command in Nasarawa has presented cheques of over N47.8 million to families of its personnel that died in active service and those who sustained serious injuries while on duty.
Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, presented the cheques to representatives of the families on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun on Friday in Lafia.
The CP, said that the initiative was part of the I-G’s Group Personal Accident, Group Life Assurance, and Family Welfare Programmes.
“It was designed to enhance the living standard of families that have suffered loss or injury as a consequence of service in the line of duty.
“This is not just a cheque, but a message of remembrance and appreciation. Let it serve as a foundation for something meaningful, a legacy that honours the memory of our fallen heroes,” the CP said.
The police boss expressed heartfelt sympathy to the beneficiaries and lauded the I-G for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.
He encouraged the recipients to invest the funds in profitable ventures that would secure the future of their families.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their loved ones while upholding the core values of service, compassion, and accountability
He that the amount presented to each family varied, depending on the rank and service years of the deceased or injured personnel.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries,
Hauwa Bukar, thanked the I-G and the entire police leadership for the timely intervention.
