Nasarawa Official Regains Freedom After Kidnap

Dr. Mohammed Egye Osolafia, Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, has regained his freedom less than 24 hours after being abducted. Known popularly as Deedat, he was seized by unidentified gunmen at his residence in the Tudun Amba area of Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday night.

Reports indicate that the assailants stormed the neighbourhood, firing sporadically into the air to scare residents before whisking him away. The incident reportedly caused panic among neighbours, prompting a swift response from security agencies.

Confirming the event, Governor Sule’s Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, described the abduction as “sad and unfortunate.” Multiple security and family sources have confirmed that Osolafia was released unharmed on Sunday night, though details surrounding the circumstances of his freedom, including whether a ransom was paid, remain unclear.

The swift release of the governor’s aide is being seen as a relief to residents and government officials, highlighting the ongoing challenges of security in the state. Authorities are yet to comment on any investigation into the incident or potential arrests of the perpetrators.
