Nasarawa Lawmaker Awards N100m Scholarships To 1,000 Students

Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, member representing Awe, Doma, and Keana Federal Constituency, has awarded N100 million in scholarships to 1,000 underprivileged students across Nasarawa State.

The presentation, held on Saturday in Lafia, was organised through the Nalaraba Foundation, established by the lawmaker to promote education and youth empowerment.

Each beneficiary received N100,000 to cover tuition fees for one academic session in state-owned and other higher institutions. Nalaraba said the initiative was based on research showing that tuition in the state rarely exceeded that amount.

“We discovered that tuition fees in the state university and other institutions were within N100,000. We decided to cover this to ease the financial burden on underprivileged students,” he explained.

He added that beneficiaries were selected in consultation with community stakeholders to ensure fairness and inclusivity across all 13 local government areas of the state.

Chairman of the 2025 Scholarship Grants Committee, Prof. Amirikpa Oyigbenu, confirmed that payments had been made to all beneficiaries. He praised Nalaraba’s commitment to education and urged students to make good use of the funds.

“In every ward, at least one to three students benefitted. We focused on indigent children whose parents cannot afford tuition fees,” Oyigbenu said.

Traditional leader, Aren Eggon Ahmed Ubangari, also commended the initiative, urging beneficiaries to apply the scholarship judiciously.

Some recipients, including Abimiku David and Safiyanu Bushrat, expressed gratitude, describing the support as timely and crucial to their academic pursuits.
