NANS Kano Backs Nationwide Protest Over New Tax Policy

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Kano Axis, has declared its support for the nationwide protest announced by the association’s national leadership over the newly introduced tax policy.

The Kano Axis said it is prepared to resist policies it believes are worsening economic hardship for students and their families across the country.

Speaking on the decision, the Public Relations Officer of NANS, Kano Axis, Comrade Muddassir Hamza Dankaka, said students could no longer remain silent in the face of policies that deepen public suffering.

He described the tax policy as unjust, anti-student and economically oppressive, particularly at a time when families are struggling with rising living costs, increasing tuition fees and limited government support.

According to Dankaka, the Kano Axis leadership, under Comrade Yunus Sulaiman Halliru, aligns fully with the national body in demanding the immediate withdrawal of the policy in the interest of fairness and equity.

He added that the planned protest would be peaceful, urging students nationwide to remain calm, disciplined and law-abiding during the exercise.

Dankaka reaffirmed the association’s commitment to defending the rights, interests and welfare of Nigerian students.

The nationwide protest is scheduled to take place on January 14, 2026, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
