The Managing Director (MD), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mallam Ali M. Ali, has tasked the agency’s editorial team to deliver well-researched, investigative, and balanced reporting.
Ali, addressing officials of the agency’s zonal office in Ibadan on Thursday, said this would earn NAN greater respect and further consolidate its reputation as a trusted brand, both locally and internationally.
“It is not surprising that the public and corporate organisations will always wait for the agency to break or authenticate reports,” he said.
Therefore, Ali encouraged reporters to step out of their comfort zones and work to make a difference through quality reports.
According to him, his management will continue to recognise and reward the resilience of officials who have done away with complacency in the delivery of their duties.
The MD also said that journalists must not lose focus on their agenda-setting duty, always ready to hold the government accountable.
“We must be able to draw the attention of governments at all levels to the deplorable condition of people and our immediate communities to earn the respect that NAN deserves,” he said.
Noting that the days of relying solely on government funding had passed, he challenged the editorial and marketing officials to tailor their operations toward exploring business opportunities for the agency.
He added that management had also been working to enhance and reposition the agency’s multimedia unit for more social media engagement.
NAN reports that the visit provided an interactive platform for the agency’s management and staff to discuss matters relating to welfare and improved operations.
The Ibadan Zonal Manager, Mr Adebayo Sekoni, assured the MD of the commitment and dedication of members of staff in the Ibadan zone, comprising Oyo, Ogun, and Kwara States. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
