Muhammad Nami, former Chairman of FIRS, now NRS, has made a grand declaration for the Senatorial seat of Zone A in a groundbreaking event held in Nami-Boku Ward, ending months of speculation.
In the event witnessed by a throng of supporters, party chieftains, and officials, Nami announced several initiatives aimed at empowering youths through educational support and community projects. He announced scholarship packages for university candidates to study various courses and promised to purchase JAMB forms for prospective students for the next ten years.
In his speech to his teeming supporters, Nami noted that he returned from a months-long training programme better prepared and equipped with the requisite knowledge and leadership skills to serve his people and humanity.
According to him, “I am here to personally offer myself for service to my people and humanity.”
He stressed that “I am here to get elected as your Senator to serve you diligently as I did as the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service and continue to invest in humanity for greater prosperity.
Nami, who emphasised that he is not in the race for the Senate seat to pilfer the resources of the people or abandon them after being elected, further stressed that he is joining the race “to serve you and provide opportunities for the growth and development of our zone and the state as a whole.
” I want to continue the philanthropic work I have been doing over the past 33 years in my business undertakings and public life through NigerSouth Foundation,” he said.
While announcing his scholarship, he said whether elected or not, “I will sponsor all pupils in the primary section of the Police Secondary School for the next ten (10) years, sponsor fifty (50) students to the secondary section of the Police Secondary School Nami annually for the next ten (10) years. This sponsorship will cover payment for the fifty (50) students’ school fees, Junior and Senior WAEC exam fees, and NECO exam fees. I will equally sponsor any three (3) qualified candidates annually to read either Accountancy, ICT, and/or Medicine at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, University, Lapai” He said he is making this contribution not as a campaign promise but as a sacrifice for the upliftment and progress of his community.
He further listed the projects he undertook through his Foundation for various communities in Nami-Boku Ward, especially in Nami, where he sited “world-class rural hospital, one of Nigeria’s best Police Secondary Schools, the best Police Station for our community/nearby villages, and facilitating the Construction of an ICT Centre by the NITDA in Nami PSS, amongst others.
Some of the projects included the provision of Power transformers to twelve rural communities in the Ward, including the Police Secondary School, Nami.
In his address, the Nami-Boku Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC), Alhaji Muhammed Umar Takuti expressed gratitude to Muhammad Nami for the selfless service he rendered to his community and promised to mobilise support for his candidature, stressing that it would be a thing of pride to the people of Nami-Boku Ward and Agaie Local Government to have their son elected into the red chamber.
