The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has warned its personnel to remain apolitical and avoid any form of political involvement while carrying out their professional duties.
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, Bauchi, gave the warning over the weekend during the 2025 annual 10 kilometre walk and jog exercise organized by the NAF.
Abdullahi urged officers and airmen to uphold the values of discipline and loyalty to the nation, stressing that political activities are incompatible with the ethos of the military.
“You must remain apolitical. Don’t involve yourselves in any political activities and do not engage in acts that are inimical to the calling of our military profession. I urge you to remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President and Commander-in-Chief,” he said.
The AVM noted that the NAF places high priority on the physical fitness of its personnel, adding that the exercise was designed to promote unity, enhance alertness, and strengthen mental and physical readiness.
He commended the Bauchi State Government for its continued cooperation with the military and for creating an enabling environment for NAF operations.
Speaking after the event, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, praised participants for their dedication and teamwork, saying their performance reflected the discipline and determination that define the Air Force.
“The exercise is more than just fitness; it is a celebration of unity and shared purpose. Seeing officers, paramilitary personnel, and NYSC members come together demonstrates how sports and fitness can strengthen peace and solidarity,” he said.
The governor also lauded the Special Operations Command and other security formations in Bauchi for their contributions to maintaining peace and security in the state.
At least 32 participants, including airmen, airwomen, and members of other security agencies, received awards for outstanding performance during the exercise.
