The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Sunday said the patriotism, courage and selfless service of Nigeria’s fallen heroes continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS spoke during the Interdenominational Church Service held to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2026 at All Saints Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.
Represented by the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, Shaibu described the church service as one of the key activities commemorating the Nigerian Army’s 163rd anniversary.
He said the event was organised to honour the sacrifices and unwavering commitment of fallen heroes to national service.
The army chief commended troops for their dedication and sacrifices in various theatres of operation across the country and urged them to continue serving Nigeria with courage, discipline and professionalism.
Delivering the sermon, the Director, Chaplain Services Roman Catholic, Brigadier General Francis Maimagani, encouraged officers and soldiers to remain faithful in serving God and humanity through their military vocation.
He also urged personnel to remain courageous and steadfast in carrying out their statutory responsibilities.
The service was attended by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), represented by Major General Henry Wesley (retd), representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, principal staff officers from the Defence and Services Headquarters, serving and retired senior officers, as well as members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association and the Soldiers’ Wives Association.
