A Nigerian fashion designer has cried out for help after allegedly being defrauded of N2.6 million for a two-bedroom apartment in Lagos.
The victim, identified on social media as @dorah_xo, explained that she and her sister paid the developer for the apartment in October, hoping to secure a permanent home.
Instead, they were shocked to discover that the same property had been sold to more than 30 other people.
Developer Vanishes After Collecting Money
According to her account, the developer collected money from all the buyers before vanishing without a trace.
She and the other victims were left stranded, with no communication or support from the person who sold the apartments.
The fashion designer said she had contacted the authorities but has received no meaningful response.
@dorah_xo added that she had taken on extra work as a virtual assistant to save for the apartment, making the loss even more painful.
In a TikTok video, she shared: “…We have not gotten any response back. We have spoken to some of the authorities. Everything we have been doing is not even yielding to anything positive. And the worst part is that where me and my sister are staying, the rent is going to expire this November. This November like this, that’s when the rent is going to expire. See, I am a fashion designer. I had to take up extra work as a virtual assistant so that I can be able to save up for this particular house that we took.
“See, I am helpless at this point…I need advice from anybody. I need advice on what to do…”
Current house rent expires soon
She further revealed that their current rent will expire in November, leaving her and her sister in a desperate situation with no alternative accommodation.
Warning to Others
In her videos, the fashion designer warned Nigerians about the dangers of house hunting in Lagos:
“SCAM ALERT 🚨 House hunting in Nigeria is becoming a horror movie. This man collected money from over 30 people for just one house and disappeared. I’m sharing this because I need help and I don’t want anyone else to go through this.”
