“My principal Wike and I have made peace” – Fubara tells Tinubu following meeting

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday said that he has made peace with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor Fubara explained that his visit was aimed at updating the President about his resumption of duty after a six-month suspension and seeking guidance to prevent future political crises in the state.

A “Father-and-Son” Discussion

Governor Fubara described his meeting with President Tinubu as a “father-and-son discussion,” adding that it offered him the opportunity to express gratitude and receive counsel on how to steer Rivers State in the right direction.

“You’re aware that the suspension was lifted midnight of the 17th, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the governor of Rivers State,” Fubara said.

He further stated: “It’s not much. It’s a father-and-son discussion, telling him thank you and seeking his guidance so we don’t find ourselves in any situation that will bring crisis again.”

When asked whether true peace had returned to Rivers State, Fubara replied:

“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together.”

First Post-Suspension Visit

Dressed in a white caftan and black cap, Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa around 6:20 pm. This marked his first meeting with President Tinubu since the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers on September 18, 2025.

The President had declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, suspending democratic structures and appointing a sole administrator to oversee the state.

Fubara’s visit coincided with separate meetings Tinubu held with top political figures, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; and Finance Minister Wale Edun.
