My Life Is Under Threat, Mohbad’s Wife Tells Omowumi Coroner

Cynthia Omowumi Aloba, the late husband of Afrobeat musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, informed Lagos Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi on Tuesday that she fears for her life. Shotobi was looking into the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

The widow, who is testifying at the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu during the inquest, claimed that she began receiving death threats following her husband’s passing.

She said, “I received death threats every day, including on social media. A lot of people are slandering me on ‘TikTok’.

“I left my husband’s house because I am not safe there”, she said.

Mohbad’s wife also stated in her testimony that on Tuesday September 12, 2023, in the afternoon Mohbad passed away in his chamber.

She added that prior to his passing, he had expressed that he was not feeling well. As a result, she said, he requested that the air conditioner in his room be turned on, but it was not functioning, so they transferred him into his son’s room.

Omowunmi claimed that she was in the kitchen during this time, and that when she returned to the room, she heard Mohbad requesting the nurse to take out the needle and witnessed the nurse injecting Mohbad with a syringe.

She went on to inform the coroner that they had to take him right away to the hospital at that time.

According to her, he was in the car’s back seat when the driver said his hands were already cold.

“Immediately, I called a bike (Motorcycle); OG, his friend, and Mohbad got on the bike, and then I took another bike and went straight to the hospital.

“It was the doctor, nurses, the Disc Jockey, and Mohbad’s brother who were inside the room while I was outside when they told me that he was dead. I said it was not possible because I still spoke to him 20 minutes ago and he said after his injection he would take his son for a five month photo shoot,” he said.

In her testimony, which the coroner acknowledged, she stated that her late husband was supposed to visit the hospital for treatment of the wound he received from his encounter with Prime Boy. However, he chose not to go because of his prior encounters with NDLEA agents and his fear of Azeez Adeshina Fashola, also known as Naira Marley.

She claimed that members of the NDLEA struck him in the head with the butt of their weapon.

A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for November 15.
