My Husband Moved Out Of Home Because I Refused To Terminate Our Pregnancy —Wife

A woman, Alice, has approached a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of her relationship with her partner, Ayobami, after accusing him of abandoning her and their children following a dispute over her second pregnancy.

According to a report published by the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Alice told the court that serious problems began in their relationship when she became pregnant with their second child and her partner insisted that she terminate the pregnancy.

She said she refused to comply with the demand, a decision that allegedly triggered a breakdown in the relationship.

Alice explained that after she rejected the request, Ayobami became distant and stopped fulfilling his responsibilities toward her and their first child.

She further alleged that he refused to support her during the pregnancy and did not provide funds for antenatal care or other necessities needed for the arrival of the baby.

According to her testimony, the situation worsened when Ayobami eventually moved out of their rented apartment and refused to renew the rent when it expired, forcing her to relocate to her mother’s residence while still pregnant.

She also told the court that he later married another woman and began directing his attention and financial support to his new family while neglecting her and their children.

Alice therefore asked the court to allow both parties to go their separate ways. She also sought custody of their children and requested that Ayobami be ordered to provide N40,000 monthly for their upkeep.

She further requested a restraining order to prevent him from threatening or interfering in her private life.

Her words: “We had a smooth relationship, and our marriage was filled with bliss. But all these stopped immediately I became pregnant with our second child. My husband found the news of an addition to the member of the family unwelcoming and therefore, ordered that I abort the pregnancy. I refused to heed his request, and hell was let loose. My husband later abandoned me despite being heavily pregnant, and our child in the rented apartment we were living. My husband took another wife who bore him children. He lavishes love and money on this woman and her children while he leaves me and our children to starve.”

Ayobami, however, agreed that the relationship should end but opposed the request for full custody of the children. He also argued that he could not afford the amount requested for their upkeep and suggested that he would only be able to contribute N20,000 monthly.

In her ruling, the court president, Mrs. O.E. Owoseni, held that the couple had not formally contracted a marriage since no traditional rites were performed and no bride price was paid.

She ordered that both parties should go their separate ways, granted custody of the children to Alice, and directed Ayobami to pay N30,000 monthly for their maintenance.

The court also issued restraining orders to both parties to maintain peace.See_More…
