“My 6 months’ salary in UK was more than 7 years pay in Nigeria” — Doctor

A Nigerian medical doctor, Tolu Binutu, has shared his inspiring Japa story, revealing that his six-month salary in the United Kingdom was more than his total earnings from seven years of hustling in Nigeria.

Dr. Binutu disclosed this on Friday while responding to a Nigerian lawyer who expressed frustration over her financial struggles and inability to afford rent for her own apartment.

Offering encouragement, the UK-based doctor recounted his own humble beginnings after completing medical school in Nigeria.

“After medical school, I moved back in with my parents. Lived with them for seven more years until I was almost 30 years. Didn’t buy a car,” he wrote.

He explained that during that period, he took on multiple jobs to save money for his professional exams and relocation.

“Worked several jobs, sometimes two jobs at the same time. Saved enough to write exams and move to the UK,” he added.

Dr. Binutu went on to reveal the dramatic contrast in earnings between his time in Nigeria and his new life abroad, stating, “Six months’ salary in the UK was more than all my seven years’ salary in Nigeria combined.”

He concluded his message with words of motivation to the struggling lawyer and other young professionals, saying, “It’s not too late for you. Not by a mile.”
