MTN Nigeria Data Centre Earns Tier III Certification

MTN Nigeria announced that its Dabengwa Data Centre in Lagos has received Tier III Certification for Constructed Facility from the Uptime Institute, marking a key step in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

The certification, awarded this week, validates the centre’s reliability standards, ensuring multiple independent power and cooling paths that allow maintenance without service disruptions. Tier III facilities are designed to deliver 99.982% availability, equivalent to just 1.6 hours of downtime annually.

Opened in July, the Dabengwa facility is among Nigeria’s largest prefabricated modular data centres, built with 96 prefabricated containers in its first phase. It integrates AI-powered energy optimisation and hybrid cloud features aimed at boosting service resilience for enterprise clients.

“This certification is a testament to the hard work, strategic focus, and collaboration across our teams and partners, in line with global best practices,” said MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Karl Toriola. “It reflects our commitment to building top-tier infrastructure that supports Nigeria’s digital future.”

The Lagos centre had earlier earned Tier III Certification for Design Documentation, making it one of only four facilities in the country to hold both certifications. It is also MTN Nigeria’s first technical facility to achieve the milestone.

The company said the recognition advances its Ambition 2025 Strategy, which prioritises robust digital infrastructure as a foundation for growth.

According to MTN, the centre enhances business continuity, strengthens its enterprise market positioning, and underlines its role in driving inclusive digital transformation across Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria added that it remains committed to expanding its digital capabilities, investing in future-ready infrastructure, and delivering solutions to meet evolving customer and enterprise needs.
