“Money cooks delicious soup, investment kills poverty” – Reno Omokri sparks debate

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has caused a fresh debate on social media after sharing a thought-provoking post about money, hard work, and investment.

Omokri, who served as a media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the statement on Monday, October 6, 2025, through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

In his post, he argued that having money is more important than hard work when it comes to achieving success or comfort in life. He also advised people to focus on investment rather than relying only on their jobs.

He wrote: “It is money that actually cooks a delicious soup, not the cook. And it is investment that kills poverty, not work. No matter how hardworking you are today, if you don’t invest your income, the only outcome you get is to become poorer as you age and your energy reduces.

“Once your productivity declines, your boss will fire you and hire a youth. But investments get stronger as you grow older. Therefore, invest!”

Omokri’s statement quickly attracted mixed reactions online. While some people agreed with him, saying his message was full of wisdom and reality, others disagreed, arguing that skill, discipline, and passion are also important in success.

Many social media users said his post was a reminder that relying only on salary or hard work without investment may not secure one’s future.

Others, however, felt that his comparison was unfair, noting that not everyone earns enough to invest after taking care of daily needs.

Despite the divided opinions, Omokri’s message has continued to trend, with many Nigerians reflecting on how financial planning and investment can shape their future.
