The Defence Headquarters has said Nigerian troops recorded sweeping security gains in 2025, neutralising top terror leaders, rescuing over 2,300 kidnapped victims and disrupting oil theft valued at nearly ₦9 billion.
The DHQ disclosed this in its annual operational review presented by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, in Abuja.
According to the military, sustained operations led to the killing of several notorious terror commanders and the arrest of 4,375 suspects linked to terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
Onoja said 1,616 terrorists surrendered with their families, while large caches of arms and ammunition were recovered across the country.
In the North East, Operation HADIN KAI recorded the arrest of 1,323 suspects and rescue of 498 hostages, weakening Boko Haram and ISWAP operations.
The North West saw improved security outcomes as Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 966 abductees and disrupted terror financing networks.
The military also confirmed precision strikes on ISIS enclaves in Sokoto State, carried out with international partners.
“These actions denied terrorists access to cross-border support networks,” Onoja said.
In the North Central, Operations ENDURING PEACE and WHIRL STROKE arrested over 1,200 suspects and recovered arms fueling communal violence.
In the Niger Delta, Operation DELTA SAFE recovered millions of litres of stolen crude and destroyed over 500 illegal refining sites.
The South East recorded reduced violence following intensified operations against IPOB/ESN elements.
Onoja assured Nigerians of sustained military pressure in 2026, pledging continued protection of lives and property.
