The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has assured displaced residents of Kurmin Wali that it remains fully committed to securing the safe rescue of their abducted family members.
In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the military said it had “duly acknowledged the apprehensions expressed by displaced residents of Kurmin Wali” and reaffirmed that “the safe rescue and reintegration of all kidnapped victims remains a paramount undertaking.”
Onoja noted that contrary to claims of a weakened response, the AFN, in collaboration with other security agencies, has continued to carry out sustained, intelligence-driven operations in the surrounding forest areas believed to be harbouring the kidnappers.
“These operations encompass a strategic amalgamation of ground patrols, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and targeted initiatives meticulously designed to locate the kidnappers and secure the hostages without jeopardising their safety,” he said.
The military spokesman explained that operational restraint in some instances was deliberate and aimed at protecting the captives.
“The AFN recognises the distress experienced by affected families and underscores that operational restraint is guided by the need to safeguard the captives and avert unintended harm,” Onoja stated.
He added that while operational details remain classified, significant efforts are ongoing to dismantle the criminal networks behind the abductions.
Onoja reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to protecting lives and property and appealed for public support, patience and cooperation as operations progress.
