‎The Nigerian military has announced that sixteen officers have been arrested and are to face disciplinary action for various acts of indiscipline and violation of service regulations.

‎In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information, the DHQ disclosed that the arrests followed a routine internal exercise aimed at strengthening discipline and professionalism in the military.

‎“The investigations revealed that the grievances of some of the affected officers stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation, following repeated failures in promotion examinations,” the statement said.

‎Newsdiaryonline gathered that some of the officers had earlier been under jurisdiction for separate offences and were already awaiting or undergoing trial.

‎“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to upholding its core values of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism,” Gusau stated. “Upon completion of the investigations, indicted officers will face the full weight of military justice in line with established procedures.”

‎He emphasized that the ongoing disciplinary measures are part of the institution’s continuous internal reform mechanism to preserve integrity and accountability within the ranks.

‎“The Armed Forces will not tolerate any act that undermines its cohesion, integrity, or constitutional responsibilities under democratic authority,” the statement concluded.
