“Men go through labour pains when their wives are pregnant” – Nigerian Doctor reveals

A Nigerian medical doctor has sparked curiosity and amusement across social media after explaining a rare syndrome: men can experience pregnancy-like symptoms when their wives are expecting.

According to the doctor, known as @Mrbearded on X (formally Twitter) some men may start feeling physical and emotional changes similar to their pregnant partners.

These can include nausea, vomiting, mood swings, weight gain, and fatigue. In rare and more severe cases, men can even experience labour-like pains and extreme tiredness.

In his tweet, the doctor said:

“A woman can get pregnant & her husband too starts having pregnancy symptoms like her. Husband can start feeling like vomiting, gaining weight, having mood swings. It is called COUVADE SYNDROME.

He further explained that empathy, stress, and hormonal changes in men may trigger these symptoms, making them “share” in the pregnancy experience.

This comes after Solomon Buchi called out Miraji for castigating a man who said that men are always neglected during their wives’ pregnancies and admitted that they have feelings too.

... quickly went viral, with social media users reacting with disbelief, curiosity, and humor. Many men admitted they had experienced similar symptoms without knowing there was a name for it.
