The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, CON, on Sunday visited the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna, after an ordnance explosion that rocked the facility on September 20, 2025.
Speaking during the visit, Matawalle reassured Nigerians that “the situation is under control,” stressing that the blast was “a mere accident” that occurred during the destruction of expired explosives, including ammonium nitrate and other hazardous substances.
He explained that preliminary reports had been submitted to him, adding: “A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the explosion and to recommend measures to prevent recurrence.”
The Minister further pledged government support to those affected. “Appropriate support will be provided to affected personnel and their families,” he stated.
Officials at DICON also confirmed to the Minister that the plant continues to operate within established safety protocols.
