Married man denies wife at Brazil concert over Tems

A man has gone viral after reportedly denying his wife on stage to share a brief moment with Nigerian singer Tems during her performance at the Afro Punk Festival in Brazil over the weekend.

In a circulating video, Tems could be heard telling the man she didn’t want to disrespect his wife by serenading him, but he immediately denied being married, even as the woman believed to be his wife stood directly behind him.

Tems.

“I know your wife is here and I need to respect her,” she told the man.

Man kisses Tems’ hand

Moments later, the man was seen kissing Tems’ hand, prompting loud cheers and screams from the crowd.

The incident has since caused a stir online, with many social media users criticizing the man’s actions and debating the boundaries between fan interactions and respect for partners.

The latest incident involving Tems has drawn parallels to a similar controversy earlier in the year when singer Omah Lay made headlines in February 2024. During his performance at the Eventim Apollo in London, he invited a female fan, who was said to have attended the concert with her boyfriend, on stage while performing his hit song “Bend You.”

Omah Lay’s encounter with fan

Clips of their intimate silhouettes quickly went viral, sparking widespread backlash online. Many criticized the singer for crossing boundaries, while others blamed the fan for participating.

The situation reportedly led to tension between the couple, with several online reports suggesting that their relationship ended shortly after the concert.

Both incidents have since reignited debates about the limits of fan-artiste interactions and how far performers should go in engaging their audience during live shows.
