Man who received ₦200 change from conductor shares strange message he saw on note

A Nigerian man has captured the attention of many online after sharing an unusual message he found written on a ₦200 note he received as change from a bus conductor.

Passenger Notices Odd Writing on Change

The man, identified online as Lola Okunrin, revealed that he received the ₦200 note while boarding a commercial bus.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed that someone had used a pen to write a message on the banknote.

Reacting to what he saw, Okunrin wrote: “A lot of you are insane. This is the 200 Naira change the conductor gave me this morning. Like why?”

Message on the Note Leaves Users Baffled

In a photo posted by Okunrin on X (formerly Twitter), the writing on the note reads: “If you see this money, your life as good.”

The unusual message quickly caught the attention of social media users, sparking amusement, curiosity, and widespread discussion.

Photo Shared Online Gains Attention

Okunrin captured a photo of the ₦200 note and shared it online, prompting reactions from fellow Nigerians.

Many users expressed surprise and wondered about the motivation behind writing on the note.

It is noteworthy that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has emphasized that defacing or writing on banknotes is illegal.

A CBN spokesperson said: “Do not store the Naira indecently: Keep banknotes clean, flat and avoid folding, crumpling, or stapling. Do not write on the Naira: Avoid writing on banknotes. Do not squeeze the Naira: Store in a wallet, purse, or pouch. Do not deface the Naira: Avoid exposing banknotes to liquids like water, oil etc. Do not spray the Naira: Give cash gifts in envelopes or via electronic channels.”
