Accoding to a report by GiveMeSport on Wednesday April 1, 2026, Manchester United are planning to strengthen their squad this summer, with a new left-back now emerging as one of their top transfer targets alongside midfield reinforcements.
The club is expected to rebuild parts of the midfield, with players such as Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali being linked with moves to Old Trafford. However, the left-back position has also become a priority because Luke Shaw is entering the final year of his contract.
United have been monitoring several left-backs, but a new target has reportedly moved to the top of their shortlist. Scouts are said to have watched the player more than ten times this season as the club continues its recruitment planning.
According to reports, Manchester United are now considering a move for Benfica left-back Samuel Dahl, who has been playing under former United manager Jose Mourinho. Mourinho has reportedly described the Swedish defender as an incredible and top player.
Dahl became Benfica’s first-choice left-back after Alvaro Carreras was sold to Real Madrid last summer. His performances since then have impressed Manchester United scouts, who are said to admire his physical strength and tactical versatility.
It is not yet clear how much Manchester United would be willing to offer for Dahl or how much Benfica would demand, especially since the Portuguese club only signed him permanently after a successful loan spell.
Although Dahl is considered capable of adapting to the Premier League, it is believed making him first-choice immediately could be too big a step. Instead, he could initially serve as backup to Luke Shaw.
