Manchester United are assessing the need to strengthen their options on the wings ahead of the summer transfer window, with manager Michael Carrick admitting the club is reviewing squad balance in wide areas.
Carrick said the club is exploring potential reinforcements to improve flexibility in attack, noting that maintaining balance across the squad remains a priority. He added that addressing the situation is “definitely something to look at,” though he stressed it is not an urgent concern.
United’s wide options have significantly reduced following several departures and loan moves. Sancho is on loan at Aston Villa and unlikely to return permanently, Antony has moved to Real Betis, Garnacho has joined Chelsea, and Marcus Rashford is on loan at Barcelona after falling out of favour. That leaves Amad Diallo as the only recognised winger in the current setup.
Despite the limited options, Carrick insisted the team can still remain dangerous and suggested there are alternative ways to deploy players in advanced roles. He pointed to tactical flexibility and experimentation as key factors while acknowledging possible transfer activity.
United have been linked with several attacking targets, including young winger Yan Diomande and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, although the club is also prioritising reinforcements in central midfield as planning continues ahead of next season.
