An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday sentenced Idowu Faniyi, 22, to two years in the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, for stealing electric cables in a house.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Oyediji sentenced Faniyi, an unemployed man, to two years imprisonment after finding him guilty on two counts of breaking in and stealing.
Oyediji held that the convict was guilty on count one, breaking into a house, and sentenced him to one year imprisonment.
“On the second count of stealing, the convict is found guilty and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
” The sentence is to run concurrently, which means the convicts will serve the terms together, he will spend the higher term which is two years in custody,” she said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Femi Ajayi, said that the convict was arraigned on Aug. 29, 2024, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ajayi said that the convict on Aug. 20, 2024, at about 3.30p.m., at Orile – Odo, Idi – Ayunre area, Ibadan, broke into the house of one Folasade Adigun with intent to steal.
The prosecutor said that the convict stole electric wire used in the wiring of the house, valued at N2, 443, 500.
Other items stolen icluded fence wiring, burglar proof and window glass valued N65,000 and N35,000 generator battery.
The total value of stolen items was put at N2, 578, 585, property of Folasade Adigun.
Ajayi said the offences contravened section 390 (9)and 411 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)(www nannews .ng)
